Part
II: Year 2000 Sustainability Plans
In
2000 DHHS is continuing it's sustainable efforts through several new
initiatives including the conversion of an old community college classroom
complex in Goldsboro into a rehabilitation center for patients suffering from
brain injuries. Another initiative involves computerization of forms used by
the Division of Social Services for various welfare recipients to enable
quicker access at the local level and save on printing costs. The
Department is continuing its energy savings initiatives through a combined
chiller project in Wilson linking the heating and air conditioning operations
of the NC Special Care Center and the Eastern NC School for the Deaf. A new Computerized Facility Management
System is currently being installed. This system will link the Property and
Construction Division with the maintenance operations of each institution. This new system will control work orders,
inventory materials, and monitor energy use and provide an excellent planning
tool for more efficient plant operations. Finally, the Department is continuing its initiatives to renovate and
recycle older institutional buildings into modern energy efficient buildings
for current uses.
