University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill
Environmental Sustainability Report - 2000

“If we value an environmentally clean, safe, healthy place to play, work and learn, the University itself must demonstrate this through choices and actions.  We must integrate the learning and practice of environmental responsibility into the way we conduct our business, operations, research, and courses.

It is our responsibility as an institution of higher education to not only teach students about environmental issues, but to provide them opportunities to explore and witness those teachings being put into practice right here on campus.

We hope that, through education, policies, and operational change, the Coalition can create among students, faculty and staff an awareness of and acts of responsibility for environmental sustainability as it relates to the day-to-day business and functions of the University.”

-BJ Tipton, Director, Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling, UNC-CH
