FY 1994 Fact Sheet

CAPT Alan W. Rossiter, USN
Commanding Officer

CAPT Donald S. Rice, USN
Executive Officer

Our mission is to provide a full range of the highest quality maintenance, engineering, logistic, and support services to the Fleet at a competitive price.

The Naval Aviation Depot, Jacksonville (NADEP JAX) is one of six modern industrial facilities commissioned by the Navy to perform indepth rework, repair, and modification of aircraft, engines, and aeronautical components. The other depots are located at Cherry Point, North Carolina; Norfolk, Virginia; Pensacola, Florida; San Diego and Alameda, California. Although the mission is the same, each depot works on different aircraft and systems.

Aircraft Program

Aircraft due for depot maintenance come to the Depot for Standard Depot Level Maintenance (SDLM), repair, conversion or modernization. In Fiscal Year 1993, NADEP JAX completed 39 P-3's, 3 T-2's, 10 F/A-18's, and 21 A-7's. In addition, NADEP JAX provides field repair services for S-3's and helicopters.

A-7 Corsair - Light attack carrier-based jet bomber
P-3 Orion - Antisubmarine patrol plane
T-2 Buckeye - Basic jet trainer
F/A-18 Hornet - Strike fighter

Aircraft Modification Program

NADEP JAX conducts multi-million dollar aircraft modifications providing turnkey operation from design and documentation to flight testing. Modifications in process include Naval Research Laboratory P-3, P-3C Update III, Global Positioning System P-3s, and miscellaneous F/A-18 engineering changes. In Fiscal Year 1993, NADEP JAX completed modifications on 10 P-3's, 105 F/A-18's, and 14 S-3's.

Engine Program

With the most modern, state-of-the-art engine facility in the Navy, NADEP JAX has completed rework capability for all repairable components, assemblies, and accessories, and was awarded the J-52 Repair Contract in August 1993. In Fiscal Year 1993, NADEP JAX processed 223 J-52, 24 TF-41, 55 F-404 engines; 285 F-404 modules.

J-52 - Powers the A-4 and A-6 aircraft
TF-41 - Powers the A-7 aircraft
F-404 - Powers the F/A-18 aircraft

Components Program

Some 38,000 units comprise our Components Program and make up one third of the NADEP JAX workload. The components are all of the parts -- large and small, electronic or mechanical -- that make up an aircraft, engine, or weapons system.

Support

Forty percent of the NADEP JAX workload falls under the heading of support. This includes emergency field team repairs, field team modification, calibration, and fleet response. Engineering support is provided for aircraft, engines, systems, and equipment. Both engineering and logistics functions are performed throughout the life cycle of the product -- from acquisition through phase-out and Foreign Military Sales support.
