DOE’s Office of Environmental Management conferred 158 certificates in its second year of recognizing federal project managers who’ve been instrumental in the deployment of innovative technologies. In FY00, the certificate winners were responsible for 210 innovative technology deployments throughout the DOE complex. The awards are designed to encourage project managers to use new technologies in solving existing problems and encourage sites to talk among themselves and share their innovative technology ideas.

In FY00, DOE awarded 3 platinum, 11 gold, 64 silver, and 80 bronze certificates. (The Savannah River Site requested that, instead of receiving the 71 individual deployment certificates its managers earned, the site be awarded only five certificates—3 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze.) In addition to the individual deployment awards, three awards were presented to DOE operations/field offices to recognize their achievements in encouraging their respective sites to collaborate in exchanging successes involving innovative technologies.

• Greatest Percent of Projects with New Deployments—Idaho Operations Office (32.1%)

FY00 certificates were awarded in four categories to encourage increasing levels of technology use:
Bronze – Awarded for the first-time deployment of a technology on a given project.
Silver – Awarded for first baseline use of a technology on a given project.
Gold – Awarded for baseline use of a technology at two or more projects at the same             DOE operations/field office.
Platinum – Awarded for baseline use of a technology at two or more DOE                   operations/field offices (at one or more projects within each office).
