FIFA 22: EA Sports decided to censor Russian teams for the invasion of Ukraine

Censorship against Russia continues after the military invasion of Ukraine. The developer EA Sports has joined the policies of FIFA and UEFA, so it decided to remove the Russian national team and all Russian teams from FIFA 22FIFA Mobile and FIFA Online.

Through a statement on social networks, EA Sports reserved the right to take further action against the Russian national team in other areas of FIFA 22either in FIFA Ultimate Team or Volta Football.

“EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and, like so many voices within the world of football, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine”reads the statement.

“Following our partners like FIFA and UEFA, EA Sports has started the process of removing the Russian national team and all Russian clubs from EA Sports FIFA products, including: FIFA 22, FIFA Mobile and FIFA Online. We continue to evaluate making changes to other areas of our games.”.

“We will keep our community up to date on any further action and thank players for their patience as we make these updates.”

EA Sports has not set a date for the censorship of Russian teams in their video games. It is estimated that the change is scheduled in a new update in the next few hours and it is unknown how long the censorship will last.

EA Sports seeks to end relationship with FIFA

The recent leak of EA CEO Andrew Wilson’s comments would explain why the company is considering ending its licensing agreement with FIFAa fact that the community was already aware of since October when EA announced the review of the agreement with FIFA.

At a company meeting last November, Willson suggested that EA feels its brand deal FIFA it is unnecessarily restrictive, while not providing enough value to the business.

“Basically, what we get from FIFA in a year without a World Cup is the four letters on the front of the box.”said the executive.

To this we must add that EA has more than 300 license agreements that allow you to use the names and likenesses of players, teams and leagues without the need for an agreement with FIFA.
