Marcelo confirmed his retirement from Real Madrid: “I have closed a very nice cycle”

A day of joy for Real Madrid, but with the farewell of a historic player. Marcelo confirmed his end of the cycle with the conquest of the fourteenth European Cup with the ‘White House’, a club from which he is the player with the most titles in its history and to which he says goodbye after winning the 2021-22 Champions League.

“It is a very beautiful moment. When you are the first captain you dream of lifting the cup and I have become the only Brazilian who has lifted a Champions League as captain of Real Madrid”he stated in a mixed zone

“The emotion is brutal, it was my last game with Real Madrid, but I’m very happy. It is not a sad day, I am leaving with great joy, grateful to the fans and the magical nights that I have experienced at the Bernabéu”he added.

Marcelo confirmed his goodbye from Real Madrid but not his retirement. At 34 years old, the time has come to decide on a new destination, once the party that he will experience on Sunday at his farewell is over.

“I don’t feel like a legend, I’m a person who enjoys every moment. I have been lucky to be captain and lift the Cup before my goodbye. The last game at the Bernabéu was a mini farewell but now I can’t say goodbye better than with my fifth Champions League. I have closed a very nice cycle”sentenced.

It should be noted that Marcelo became, with the victory at the Stade de France against Liverpool, one of the players to win his fifth Champions League, equaling those achieved by Cristiano Ronaldo as the best record since the change in the competition’s nomenclature, since one of the six European Cups that Paco Gento won with Real Madrid.
