Mazazo for Laporta: Chelsea can unilaterally renew Barcelona’s great goal

During the last months, there are many players who have sounded like reinforcements of the FC Barcelona for the 2022-23 season. President Joan Laporta and coach Xavi Hernández look for the best elements in the transfer market to empower the workforce. One of them is César Azpilicueta. At Camp Nou they want the services of the Spanish defender. However, according to information from the EFE agency, his current club, Chelsea, has the option to unilaterally renew the footballer’s contract. The link between the parties ends on June 30 of this year.

The Navarrese player has not yet reached a renewal agreement with the London team. However, the Spaniard’s contract includes a clause by which he can renew the agreement without the player’s consent, although it is not clear if this renewal would be for only one season or the duration would be longer.

Thus, the option for Azpilicueta to sign with Barcelona in the coming months for free would be blocked. The Blaugrana team got in touch with Azpilicueta several months ago, with the intention of incorporating him in the summer and providing experience to the team’s right flank, limping in recent years with the failed experiments of Serginho Dest and Sergi Roberto. The clearest example of this was the hiring of Dani Alves this winter.

According to Marca and confirmed by Efe, Azpilicueta is still waiting to meet with Chelsea to negotiate the conditions of a possible consensual renewal. The Navarrese intended to continue with the London team, but the situation has dragged on since September, with the club waiting to find out what will happen to other defenders such as Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, who are also out of contract in June.

Azpilicueta, at 32 years old (he will turn 33 in August), is at a sweet moment in his career. He is the fourth player with the most minutes at Chelsea and is coming off a season in which he has won the long-awaited Champions League and has established himself in the Spanish team, with whom he played in the last European Championship.

According to Transfermarkt, a portal specializing in footballer appraisals, César Azpilicueta, born in Pamplona on August 28, 1989, is valued at 11 million euros. The Spanish defender can play as a central defender or winger on either wing.
