Some 38 inmates escaped this Sunday from the Miguel Grau Youth Center for Diagnosis and Rehabilitation in Piura, confirmed the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights (Minjusdh).
In a statement, the sector led by Aníbal Torres detailed that some minors climbed the fence and used the public lighting poles to escape, while another group left through the main door of the establishment. He remarked that, after coordination with the Police, five inmates were recaptured.
“As reported by personnel from the referred youth center, at approximately 3:30 pm some teenagers climbed the security fence and they used public lighting poles to escape. While another group left through the front door of the center“, he pointed Minjusdh.
“Immediately after the events occurred, coordination was carried out with the Piura Police Region and As a result of the execution of a siege plan in the city, 5 of them were recaptured. The operation will continue for the next few hours with the aim of locating all the young people who escaped”, It was indicated in another part of the pronouncement.
The Ministry of Justice and Human Rights It indicated that it has ordered the immediate dismissal of the director of said youth rehabilitation center, as well as to apply administrative measures and file criminal complaints against those who may be responsible.
He also ordered the total restructuring of the National Program for Youth Centers (Pronacej) throughout the country.
