School Year 2022: know what public and private schools cannot require of you when applying for a vacancy

After the Ministry of Education (Minedu) ratified its unwavering decision that schoolchildren return to face-to-face classes in March of next year, after the advance in vaccination against the coronavirus (COVID-19) nationwide, parents are getting ready to enroll their children in public and private schools for the 2022 School Year.

Therefore, the Education sector reminded parents and guardians of what things public and private schools cannot request during the enrollment process.

Institutions public educational They cannot require you:

  • Materials: texts, supplies and uniforms
  • Additional documents to those indicated in the standard.
  • Entrance / admission exam or interview
  • Payments: donations, parents’ association payment (Apafa) and contributions

Institutions private educational They cannot ask you and / or evaluate:

  • Materials: texts, supplies and uniforms.
  • Prior admission process.
  • Pension, tuition and / or entrance fee.


Through a release, the Ombudsman’s Office recommended to Minedu to provide, in the next regulation on the development of the 2022 School Year, the compulsory return to face-to-face classes -as a general rule- for all educational institutions of basic education.

In addition, it should be established that only in exceptional cases, taking into account the reality of the health situation, distance or semi-presential classes are allowed.

The entity warned that more than 301,000 public school students did not access distance education and more than 83,000 left the education system due to the closure of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic.


The Minister of Health, Hernando Cevallos, announced that for the first fortnight of January 2022, it will arrive, the first batch of vaccines from the Pfizer laboratory to immunize those under 5 to 11 years of age and thus guarantee the return to face-to-face school classes.
