Sweet recipes made with panettone to enjoy its flavor in National Holidays

Many associate panettone with Christmas and the New Year; However, its consumption is not exclusive to those December dates and in Peru there are those who delight the palate with its flavor during the National Holidays. If you are one of that group that enjoys it in the cold mornings and afternoons, there are recipes that have it as the main ingredient for a sweet craving.

According to the study “Habits and customs of panettone consumption in Metropolitan Lima”, carried out by USIL, 32% of families prefer to eat this sweet in the national month, while 6% do so at any time of the year. In addition, every July 11 the Panetón Day.

This delicious and soft sponge cake with raisins and candied fruits was created in Milan, Italy, about 500 years ago, but a century ago it only arrived in Peru together with the first Italian immigrants, who consumed it as part of their Christmas customs. Variations have also been created in the country such as whole wheat panettone, purple corn panettone, marbling, panettone covered with chocolate or filled with ice cream, made with potato flour or kiwicha flour and more.

Recipes to make at home

1. French toast with panettone

This simple recipe with the delicious and traditional sponge cake comes thanks to the specialists at Tottus. Here your preparation:

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of panettone
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla essence
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch of salt

preparation:

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl until they are integrated. Then, soak the panettone slices in the mixture for a few minutes.
  2. Heat the pan and put a little butter. Brown the panettone slices on both sides.
  3. Ready. You can enjoy it with the complement you want.

2. Panettone biscuits dipped in chocolate

Ingredients:

  • 1 panettone
  • 1 tbsp evaporated milk
  • 1 dark chocolate icing tablet
  • Blancmange
  • 1/2 tsp butter

preparation:

  1. Cut the paneton into rectangles
  2. Spread a rectangle with manjar blanco and cover it with another.
  3. Place the chocolate, milk and butter in a heat-resistant container. Take to a bain-marie until melted.
  4. Cover the panettone rectangles on both sides.
