The Peruvian Navy assured that in some coastal areas of the country there were “unusual behaviors” that have intensified with the presence of abnormal waves, after the eruption of an underwater volcano in Tonga.

Through a statement, he reiterated that after the occurrence of this geological phenomenon, the respective evaluation was carried out and it was determined that it would not cause a tsunami warning on the Peruvian coast.

As he stated, to all this was added the phase of rising tide (high tide), not having presented the “required technical conditions” for the determination of the alert of tsunami, according to the protocols established by the National Tsunami Warning System.

Therefore, the Peruvian Navy It recommended that the coastal population and people who carry out port, fishing, sports and recreational activities adopt the necessary security measures to avoid accidents and/or personal and material damage.

“The Navy, through the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation, will continue to evaluate the state of the sea based on ocean behavior for the continuous prevention and safety of the entire population”, sentenced.

At least 22 ports on the north and central coast are closed as a preventive measure in the presence of abnormal waves due to the volcanic eruption that occurred 73 kilometers north of Nukualofa (Tonga).
