The question of the day: what sanitary restrictions change from tomorrow?

A day after the Ministry of Health (Minsa) confirmed the third wave of the pandemic in Peru, yesterday Minister Hernando Cevallos announced that Lima, Callao and 23 other provinces of the country enter a high alert level.

LOOK: Measures against the third wave have been in force since January 7: Will advancing the curfew help to stop the infections?

It is about Ica, Pisco, Cusco, Cajamarca, Jaén, Piura, Sullana, Sechura, Talara, Trujillo, Pacasmayo, Chiclayo, Santa, Puno, Lima, Huara, Callao, Bagua, Chachapoyas, Tacna, Huánuco, Satipo, Ilo, Mariscal Nieto and Tumbes that until today belong to the level of moderate alert. The announcement was made yesterday, but the supreme decree 002-2022-PCM It was published today with what begins to be effective tomorrow, January 7 until the 16th of this month.

The curfew in these places will be from 11 pm to 4 am In addition, the capacity is reduced: shopping centers, galleries, general stores and casinos will only be able to receive customers up to 40% of their capacity, while restaurants and the like up to 50%.

Last Tuesday, the Minsa confirmed the presence of the third wave due to the increase in infections and the speed of the increase. For example, during the month of December, comparing epidemiological weeks 49 and 52, COVID-19 cases doubled in Metropolitan Lima and increased by more than 50% at the national level.

In addition, only 16 days after the first cases of omicron were confirmed, this variant is the predominant one in Metropolitan Lima, displacing the delta variant.

So far, it is an increase in infections, but not in deaths. In fact, most cases are mild and moderate.

Regarding the occupation of intensive care beds, the Peruvian Society of Intensive Medicine (Sopemi) indicates that 75% of ICU beds in metropolitan Lima are occupied.

According to the Minsa, in addition, 90% of hospitalized people do not have their two doses of the vaccine. This coincides with the fact that 90% of those who died in the second half of 2021 were not vaccinated.
